Hotel Transylvania

October 15, 2012 by Mom on the Make 2 Comments

Our three kiddos have been wanting to see Hotel Transylvania for several weeks now.

Yesterday, we were FINALLY able to fit it into our bursting schedule, and I’m so glad we did.

This movie is cute, original, and heartwarming.

I really was not expecting much, but I have to say this was truly enjoyable from beginning to end.  I would say it is appropriate for ages 4 and up.

Our littlest is almost 5, and he was cracking up the whole time.  He absolutely loved it.

Adam Sandler plays Dracula and Selena Gomez plays his daughter, Mavis.  Because Dracula’s beloved wife was killed by humans shortly after Mavis was born, he thinks humans are dangerous.  He believes that all humans are out to get monsters.

In order to protect his daughter, Mavis, from these evil humans, he builds Hotel Transylvania in a secure area past the spooky forest, where most humans do not wander.

Every year, Dracula throws a birthday party for Mavis with hundreds of monsters at his hotel.

This movie revolves around her 118th birthday, when a human (played by Andy Samberg) wanders into the hotel for the first time.

The hilarity begins with the addition of the human to this monster scene.

The relationship between Dracula and Mavis is so sweet.  Drac is just a concerned father trying to protect his daughter, and its really heartwarming to see the lengths he goes to for his daughter’s safety and happiness.

My family of five gives this super fun movie a hearty 10 thumbs up.  Very well done.  Its such a win to find a kid’s movie that, we as parents, truly enjoy as well.

I’m so glad you reviewed this. I’ve been debating taking my kids (nearly 6 and 9.5) to see it. My oldest daughter is a bit sensitive and when we saw the preview at the last movie we saw in the theatre, she was hiding behind her hands. She’s since said that she would like to go see it, so with your review recommending it for ages 4+, I think we will go ahead and do it.

I’m so glad this helped you. It really is a very sweet movie. Dracula is actually very nice, not scary at all. The monsters are all friends and very funny. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did. 🙂
