Imagineer (my 8 year old daughter) just finished a book called, “Uncle Robert’s Secret”. When she was getting close to the last few pages of the book, she said “Mommy, I’m sad this book is almost over.” 🙂
I love reading a book, where you really do not want the story to end. The clear sign of a wonderful story.
Below is my short interview with Imagineer on her thoughts about this book.
Q. Describe this book in a few sentences
A. “Uncle Robert’s Secret” is about a girl named Debbi and her brothers Bob and Sonny. Bob sees a little boy getting hit with a belt by his father, so when he sees them leave he ran in and took him and ran home. He didn’t tell his siblings because they already found out the day their parents left. Ever since then Debbi, Bob and Sonny had a secret they couldn’t tell.
Q. Describe the main characters
A.The main characters were Bob, who was the second oldest who is thirteen with blond hair and blue eyes, Debbi who is eleven was the third oldest and she had brown eyes and blond hair, Sonny who happend to be the youngest was nine and had blue eyes and blond hair like his brother. Bob is daring, Debbi is kind, and Sonny is polite. Those are their names what they look like and their attitude.
Q. What is your most favorite scene in the book?
A. I really like every scene in this book. I like how Wylly Folk St.John put a lot of detail in this book and I would like to send him a letter and tell him how good he was at this story. And I also liked the detailed pictures Frank Aloise drew, like the skull and the boy, so I also would like to write/type him a letter.
Q. What part of the book did you like least?
A.The part I didn’t like was when I finished the book because I’d really like to read on. Because this book is really exciting and adventurous, I almost got scared.
Q. Who is your favorite character and why?
A. I can’t just choose one, they are all so nice, calm, gentle, polite, and interesting.
Q. Why would you recommend this book to your friends?
A. I would recommend this book because of the adventure, the characters, their kindness, and how nice and interesting it was to read. Thats why i’d recommend this book to my friends.

I love Imagineer’s review ! I want to read the book now. Maybe she’ll loan it to me? I especially love how her least favorite part was that the book was ending !
I love this interview, Imagineer gave a lot of detail. I would really like to see more about “Uncle Robert’s Secret” and other books by Wylly Folk Saint John, because of this interview and how much she said. I love how she replied for what part she liked the best and least.
I love that your daughter describes their hair and eye color. So funny to see what aspects of describing yourself are important at that age! I also love that she wants to let the author know how much she loved this story. She can probably tweet him!

Love it! Your daughter is so insightful – she did such a great job thinking about and describing what she liked about the book. If you and your daughter would like to do a mother-daughter review, we do a weekly Featured Guest Reviewer spot where we have a guest book review and a little feature on the guest reviewer’s blog. You can visit and check it out – then let me know if you two are interested. The next available spot would be in November, so you have lots of time to think about it! 🙂 Thanks for linking in to the Kid Lit Blog Hop! I already follow you in most ways, (i.e., twitter, pinterest), but I’ve added you on G+

What a great interview! She sounds like a very thoughtful reader. I know that feeling she describes, of not wanting a book to end! Thanks for linking up to the Kid Lit Blog Hop!

Hi, I found your post on Wylly Folk St John when I was looking for old copies of some of her magazine articles. She was my great aunt and it’s not the first time a reader thought she was a man based on her name. She was named William Michael when she was born in 1908 as her parents were expecting a boy. People called her Willy Mike growing up and she changed the spelling as she grew older. I’m so pleased your daughter enjoyed her book. Aunt Wylly loved using children she knew in her books and I’m a character in ” The Christmas Tree Mystery ” Here’s a link to my blog which has more stories about her and some old photos too should your daughter be interested in learning more.
