Five Things I Could Not Live Without Daily

August 24, 2012 by Mom on the Make Leave a Comment

Daily Must Haves

Daily Must Haves

I found this idea for a post on MomDot.  This is such a fun question because you will be forced to think about your favorite things and that’s always a happy thought. 🙂

These favorite things could be products or actions (hugs) or people.

I decided to make my list about the products I need each and every day.

With these types of lists, I try to jot down the first items that come to mind, rather than thinking too much about it.

1.  Trader Joe’s Gluten Free Granola

This granola really gets me going each morning.  A few weeks ago, there were no granola bags available in the cereal section at TJs, and I panicked.  I tracked down a TJ employee and asked them to make sure this had not been discontinued.  He assured me they were just sold out, not discontinued.  So, for about a week, I had to go without.

For some reason, I’m just very addicted to this stuff.  Its the perfect start to the day for me.

The granola did indeed show up on the cereal shelves the following week, and I bought 8 bags.  Please Trader Joe’s, hear my plea – do not ever discontinue these morsels of goodness.

2. Green Tea

At this point, I drink about 3 mugs of green tea per day.  As I mentioned in an earlier post, I really enjoy the TAZO Green Zen Tea that I buy at Starbucks on occasion.  At home, I drink all sorts of green teas, from Lipton to Yogi, to Celestial Seasonings to Stash.  I usually will choose one that is on sale at Safeway or try a new interesting looking one at Trader Joe’s.

I really like many different types, and know how great this tea is for me, so don’t feel guilty drinking as much of it as I want throughout the day.

I used to drink orange juice in the morning, but I kicked that habit to the curb a few months ago, when I decided to make better beverage choices.  There are so many drinks that are loaded with hidden sugars.

And, for me, eating a chocolate chip cheesecake is totally worth the sugar, but its not worth it for a glass of orange juice.

3. Sephora Waterproof Retractable Eyeliner in Brown

I have discussed this eyeliner in a previous post, but I will say again.  This is, hands down, the BEST eyeliner I have ever used in my life.

I have red hair, so my eyelashes are blond.  I really rely on my eyeliner and mascara in the morning to highlight my eyes.  This eyeliner goes on so smooth and the brown color has a very slight sparkle to it.  SO perfect.

4. Lancome Hynose Doll Lashes Mascara

As mentioned in item number 3, my mascara is very important to me.  I think if I were stranded on an island, and I could only choose one beauty product, this would probably be it.

I have tried COUNTLESS mascaras, and have finally settled on this one. I will probably always be up for trying the latest and greatest, but as of right now, this is the only mascara that gives my lashes lift and volume, without flaking or smudging.  I think flaking is my number one pet peeve, and this mascara simply does not flake.  I just love it.  Thank you Lancome!

5. A Sweet

Let’s face it.  If we’re being honest with ourselves, it is very difficult to get through a whole day without a sweet.

I try to hold out until the afternoon to have a sweet.  I like all sweets: cookies, cakes, chocolate etc.. If I have made a homemade sweet, this is my ultimate sweet treat.

Below are pictures of recent homemade sweets I’ve made and thoroughly enjoyed.

I’m sure I will think of other important daily items, but these were the very first items to pop into my mind.

What are your five items you could not live without daily?

Smartlash Works!

Smartlash

Smartlash Rocks!

Lets face it, as we get on in our years, our eyelashes begin to lose their luster.  They are not as thick and luxurious as they once were many moons ago, and our eyes seem to lose their brightness without the benefit of thick lashes.

I, personally, have the additional problem of having blond eyelashes.  My hair is red and my eyelashes are very blond, which makes them basically invisible.  🙁

So, I have always had to rely on a great mascara to highlight and line my eyes.  Mascara has always been a great solution for me, until about a year ago when I really started to notice the decrease in volume of my lashes. The increase in advertisements for long, luxurious lashes all over the place did not help the matter.

So, my search for the perfect mascara or eyelash enhancer began.  I tried several mascaras and enhancers and then stumbled upon Smartlash at DermStore.  I read the reviews and was really struck by the over the top positive results that women seemed to be experiencing.  There are currently 2610 reviews and most of them positive.  Thats right, two THOUSAND six hundred and ten reviews.  That really struck me as a green light to go ahead and try this product.

Also, the product seemed really easy to apply and I was sure that I would be able to remember to put a little on in the morning and the evening.  So, I ordered it.

DermStore delivered the product within a few days.  Quick delivery is important to me when its a new beauty product I’m eager to try.  🙂  DermStore.com received high marks from me for both the fast delivery and including FREE SAMPLES with my order.  We all love free samples and at DermStore, they always include free samples of other products for you to try at home.

I have been using Smartlash now for two months and have noticed a dramatic difference. Not so dramatic that they look fake, but a big of enough difference in the volume of my lashes that I have a happy confidence when I look at my eyes now.  It is amazing how thicker eyelashes makes you feel younger almost immediately.

Smartlash Before and After

Before and After of Smartlash Customer

Last year, I remember considering going to the local eye lash extension parlor, but I decided not to due to the cost and the upkeep.  You have to go back to refresh your extensions every six weeks.  That really seemed a little over the top.  I’m so glad I waited and did more research and found Smartlash.

DermStore is a Great One Stop Online Beauty Shop

DermStore

I am equally glad that I stumbled upon DermStore.com.  The beauty product store choices are overwhelming, so to find a place that really offers it all in terms of beauty products from A-Z, I am quite pleased.

If you use one brand for your skin care, another brand for your mascara, and yet another brand for your eyeliner, you might just find all of your favorites here in one spot.  DermStore has partnered with over 650 brands and they boast over 85,000 customer reviews at this point.

Their customer service seems to be top notch, earning the five year Bizrate Circle of Excellence Award Winner for Customer Satisfaction.  They offer a 30 full refund guarantee, which is always comforting.

I love that they have licensed estheticians and dermatologists reviewing products as well as real live customers ringing in with their comments.  Lets face it, we are in a social world, and if someone you can relate to has had a positive experience with a product, you will most likely be willing to give it a try.

DermStore gives you the feeling like you are casually perusing the aisles of a high end beauty product store, except you’re doing it online.  Love it!

Get out there and find that cosmetic or skin cream that will be a great pick me up to integrate into your daily Mom routine.  Enjoy!

Sephora Retractable Waterproof Eyeliner

Sephora Waterproof Retractable Eyeliner

Sephora Waterproof Retractable Eyeliner

I love my new eyeliner.  Finding the perfect eyeliner has not been easy for me.

Maybe I’m picky, but I think it is more that there are so many elements to creating the perfect eyelining experience.  Every morning, I need to apply my eyeliner, so its a daily event and should be as easy as possible.

The eyeliner has to go on smooth and easy.  There should not be any stickiness involved and it should last all day without the wearer having to worry about smearing or dissolving issues.

I used to use the Maybelline dark brown eyeliner in the red packaging for years and years, but was not always happy about how it went on dry – not very smooth.

Then, a few months ago, I ventured into my local Sephora and asked what their most popular crayon type of eyeliner was at the moment.

The sales associate directed me to the Sephora Retractable Waterproof Eyeliner.  I tried a bit on my hand and it went on very soft and smooth.  Very impressive.  I decided to take home the “brown” color.  Its a dark brown with the slightest bit of shimmer to it.  I am finally completely happy with my eyeliner!! ( 🙂 )

Stocking up on my new favorite eyeliner

A few days ago, I went back to Sephora and purchased three more of these little babies.

I felt like I was storing up for a long winter. Its a good sign that I felt the need to stock up.  If you start to irrationally worry that a product is going to be discontinued for some reason, you know you’ve found a keeper.

I now have one eyeliner at home, one in my workout bag, and one in my car.  Although, I don’t think I need the one in my car, since this eyeliner really does not need any touch up during the day.

Before this eyeliner, I had tried Loreal, Almay, Cover Girl, and Maybelline.  Really none of those brands even come close to comparing to this Sephora eyeliner and this product only costs $12.  Over the years, I have always tried to find drugstore brand make-up that I will be happy with so that I can save money.  Twelve dollars, in my opinion, is more than worth it for a solid eyeliner.

Side note: I mentioned the brand, Almay earlier- I will say that their make-up remover pads are the best on the market.  This is another product I stock up on, because I don’t know what I would do without it.

Sephora Eyeliner colors

I love it when a make-up product offers a broad color palette, since there are many different tastes and styles to accommodate.  This Sephora Eyeliner comes in many great colors including the following:

  • Blue
  • Black
  • Purple
  • Silver
  • Green
  • Olive
  • Brown
  • Glitter Black
  • Matte Brown Black
  • Matte Charcoal
  • Glitter Copper
  • Glitter Purple
  • Matte Moss
  • Slate
  • Teal
  • Turquoise
  • Glitter Green
  • Shimmer Navy
  • Shimmer Electric Purple
  • Matte Deep Plum
  • Glitter Grey
  • Shimmer Bronze

My Next Beauty Project: Finding a great creamy eyeshadow

Now I need to start my research for a creamy eyeshadow that won’t crease or flake off during the day.  I’ll keep you posted with my findings.

If you have any suggestions for me, please leave a comment below to help steer me in the right direction. ( 🙂 )
