I was fortunate to come across a very talented artist, Brooke Baxter Howie, at a local Arts and Crafts Fair a few weeks ago. Her display of art was incredibly eye catching and drew us in immediately.
This painting to the left is stunning in person. This might be my next purchase. 🙂 In person, you are able to see the many layers of beautiful colors that she uses to create her abstract pieces.
Brooke’s style is so refreshing and bright, that any of her paintings would energize any room in the home. I love the colors she utilizes to bring her paintings to life because they are colorful, while at the same time, soothing and peaceful. There was a dark aqua color that she was using in several of her pieces that was really unique and vibrant.
There was one piece in particular highlighting this dark aqua color, that I almost decided to
take home with me, but then decided I should probably check with my hubby first, since I was thinking of hanging it in the master bedroom. Well, I wish I had bought it, because for the next few weeks, the painting haunted me.
You know how that is, you find something that you quickly fall in love with and just know it would be perfect for your home, but, for whatever reason, you’re just not in the mood or just not ready at that moment. Then, you pay for it, by thinking about it constantly. Well, anyway, this was the case with this dark aqua painting I saw at Brooke’s display.
Visiting Brooke Baxter Howie’s Etsy Online Store
I decided to browse through Brooke’s selections at her online store at Etsy.com. I was not surprised to find that I really liked MANY of her paintings. After much debate over which one to start with, I chose this charming beachside painting to the left.
Every time I walk by this painting throughout the day, I think of our beach trips and how much fun my family always has at the beach. Whether its San Diego, Monterey, Rodeo Beach in Marin, Malibu or on one lucky occasion, Hawaii, we love, love, love the beach.
It is really neat the way one painting can evoke so many happy memories in an instant. I think about my kids building sand castles, my husband being buried in the sand by our three little ones, the smell of hamburgers cooking off in the distance and sipping ice cold lemonade. I also think about the sea otters when we visit the beaches in Carmel and Monterey and specifically, the Point Lobos State Park. Can you tell, I may need a trip to the beach soon? 🙂
I am also a huge fan of starfish and this frame is just perfect with the shabby chic looking starfish attached at the bottom. It looks very authentic like it was just scooped up from a sandy beach. This painting can also be hung a the wall or cabinet. I have hung it on our kitchen cabinets as well as you can see on the right. Anywhere, it looks so refreshing and bright.
Paintings can Inspire
This painting has actually inspired me to re-deccorate our guest bathroom.
We moved into our house eight years ago, and I still have not painted over the grey color that currently graces the bathroom’s walls. I now want to change the room into a seaside theme.
I was at a friend’s house the other day and noticed a beautiful aqua paint in her living room, called “Lucerne”, by Benjamin Moore. I knew right away that this was the right color for the room. Maybe I will hang some seashells and starfish on the walls as well as another seaside painting from Brooke. I certainly do not want to remove my beach painting from my kitchen, so I think another beach theme painting is in order. I’ll be sure to post some photos when its done.
I love small projects that will make a big difference in the home. 🙂
