The Big Apple

February 20, 2013 by Mom on the Make 2 Comments

After this past weekend, I can now say that I completely understand what all of the hullabaloo is about New York City.

I had only been to NYC twice before.  Once in high school for a family vacation, and once to meet friends for dinner about fifteen years ago.  We just zipped in on the subway, then zipped out.

This weekend, however, I had the opportunity to sightsee in the city for three full days, and we covered a lot of ground.

I took my nine year old daughter, Imagineer, to NYC for a Mother Daughter weekend, and we had a blast.  We were visiting my brother who recently moved to New Jersey.

The first day, we took a two hour cruise, where we were able to ride past the Statue of Liberty.  She is really incredible in person.  Currently, you are not able to walk up the Statue of Liberty due to hurricane damage around the ground surrounding her, but luckily the view from the boat was Awesome.

The shot below was from the cruise as well.  The small building in the center with the flags waving on top is the U.N.

Photos from the Natural History Museum.  LOVE this place!!

Photos of Central Park.  I was blown away by this park.  It is massive at six miles long.  So many trails, beautiful bridges, trees, grassy areas etc..  If it was this beautiful in the middle of winter, I can only imagine how incredible it must be in the spring.

I took 443 photos this weekend.  I could not stop snapping.

So much to see, so little time.  We were able to fit in the Empire State Building, the view from the top of Rockefeller Center, Times Square, New York Stock Exchange, lunch at the Carnegie Deli, Central Park, the museum of Natural History, the 9/11 Memorial, a walk through Chinatown, and a handful of subway rides.

Imagineer was excited to ride the subway since Fudge from her SuperFudge books lives in NYC with his family and rides the subway.  Imagineer recognized some of the places in the city from her books.

Oh, I almost forgot.  Imagineer and my brother had a snowball fight in Central Park just like Will Ferrell does in “Elf”.  🙂

Love this city and will definitely be back.

Wowwww, wonderful pictures. I am an Ohio girl trapped in New York City. Born and raised in Akron and I lived in Columbus, Oh forever before moving to New York City and marrying my husband. Your pictures are making me fall in love with New York (though Ohio is always in my heart). Nice finding your on BloggyMoms. I’ll make my way back to your blog!
