Today’s Smile

Daily Smile

Daily Smile

A few years ago, when my Mom felt that I appeared to be a bit overwhelmed (:0) raising my little ones, she gave me a beautifully wrapped gift.

The gift contained a beautiful pink and gold journal and a laminated copy of the essay, “The Station”, by Robert Hastings.

If you have not read this one yet, I highly recommend that you set aside 5 minutes to read it.  It really puts things into perspective, more so than anything else out there, in my opinion.  To read this treasure of an essay, you can go here.

With the beautiful journal, my Mom suggested that I should write down three things every day that made me happy during that particular day.

Write Down Three Things Every Day that make you Happy

She had read that this simple exercise of remembering that there is good in every day has been proven to re-energize the tired and re-ignite an attitude of gratitude for those that are too busy to remember.

At the time, my girls were 4 and 2 and I was exhausted all of the time, and my littlest was still in diapers.  So, yes, I had those days where I just thought I would never get past even the potty training stage.  It seemed like such a long road.

Well, clearly, I made it past that stage, and LOVE where I am now.  My two oldest are 10 and 8 and my little boy is 4.  I now find myself reassuring the younger parents still working to get out of the diaper stage that yes, it indeed does get better.  It gets SO SO much better.

The Today’s Smile Category

I’ve decided that my blog needs a today’s smile category.  This is the first post in this category, and I will check in from time to time with a list of three things that made me happy in a particular day.

You will find that if you stick to this exercise every day, that you will be having to narrow down to three happy things, because there are usually many, many more.

Here’s my list for today….

1. Watching my 4 year old in his swim lesson – he can do real swimming arms now – YAY!

2. I moved my Golden Gate Bridge Print from my family room to my bedroom and I am Finally happy with the left side wall in my bedroom.  It was blank for the last few years.  This whole day, I have been so happy walking by my room now and seeing it on the wall.  🙂

3. My eight year old has a friend over now for a playdate and they are super silly and having a ball.
