How do we get our little ones to drink more water?

Beverage Dispenser

Beverage Dispenser

I decided that I want to make a bigger effort to promote drinking healthy ice cold water this summer to my kids, rather than sweetened fruit juices. The sugar content in popular juices makes me crazy and I just knew there had to be a better way.

Well, when I was on my Sonoma getaway a few weeks ago with my hubby, there was a beautiful glass beverage dispenser in the lobby of the Inn at Sonoma.

This dispenser was always filled with lots of ice, cold water, and lime, orange and lemon slices at the top.  The water was DELICIOUS and always refreshing after our bike outing or walks around the town.  The slices of citrus gave just the slightest hint of citrus to our refreshing glasses of water.

When I returned home from our getaway, first item on my list was to find a similar glass jug for my home.  Well, I found one at Classic Hostess.  You can see how beautiful it is in the picture to the left.

The kids are excited about water

The kids were so excited to show their friends their new fancy jug of water.  My second grader actually made a sign by her seat at our kitchen table that said “Water giver”.  She wants to be the sole server of the water. 🙂

We have only had it for a week, but when people come over, the kids offer them a glass of water like little waiters and waitresses.  🙂  The kids’ friends think it looks like a fancy restaurant server and the adults say it reminds them of the fresh water at spas.

I guess I could try putting fresh cucumber and mint in the jug as well.  So soothing.  The possibilities are endless.

Nevertheless, my intent with buying the jug was to promote water drinking.  I will stick with this goal.  Maybe we’ll put some iced tea or lemonade in occasionally, but healthy drinking will prevail.  I’m determined.  🙂
